Studyond: networking in the DNA

The close link between universities, companies and funding programmes was a decisive factor in the successful founding and development of the St.Gallen startup Studyond. Today, the team of seven brings together students, companies and universities to make student research visible and usable.

July 2023: Alexandra Allgaier, Philipp Wetzel and their team founded Studyond. The two met at the University of St.Gallen (HSG), where they studied and completed their doctorates. During their studies at the University of St.Gallen, they wrote and supervised numerous scientific papers – just like thousands of other students. Around 95,000 papers are written in Switzerland every year. The results often end up unread and unused in a “drawer”. Studyond changes this.

For the economy instead of the drawer

Alexandra, Philipp and their team are harnessing the enormous potential of student research for companies. At the centre is an AI-supported matching platform that companies can use to find students and lecturers for specific questions and to employ scientific papers directly for their innovation and strategy projects – for example for market analyses, strategy recommendations or the development of technical prototypes. In this way, science and practice come together, with results that are of economic and social relevance. Studyond has seen great success: today, it is driving the development of a network that already has more than 20 universities and 200 companies in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

Studyond’s work has already been honoured several times in its home country: initiatives such as the Startfeld Diamant Audience Award and the Leader Digital Award have highlighted Studyond as an innovative startup. But its success also radiates far beyond Eastern Switzerland. Alexandra Allgaier was included in Forbes Switzerland’s 30 under 30 list in 2025. Forbes Switzerland thus recognises Alexandra’s outstanding work and Studyond’s mission.

“There are many great contact points in the canton of St.Gallen, such as Startfeld, Empa, the Economic Promotion of the Canton of St.Gallen and the universities. Talk to people about your ideas and you will find open doors in St.Gallen!”

The St.Gallen startup ecosystem as a hub for growth

Studyond emerged from the St.Gallen startup ecosystem and is deeply rooted in the network. As an HSG spin-off and ETH startup, it combines business administration and technology. The company emerged from an Innosuisse research project collaboration between HSG, ETH Zurich and the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST). The Swiss Employers’ Association and economiesuisse were involved in the research project as implementation partners.

The Studyond team doesn’t just connect data with its AI. It brings innovative and bright minds together with experienced partners from the field and thus creates real impact.
